Pennsylvania’s IID requirements

If you have been stopped and arrested for suspected drunk driving in Pennsylvania , your ability to maintain the right to drive may be among your top concerns. This is a valid issue to be worried about as not being able to drive can make it very hard for you to get to work or otherwise maintain your life. While you may lose your license for some time depending upon your situation, you may also have the ability to regain driving privileges by installing an ignition interlock device.

As the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation explains, you may need to use an IID even if this offense is your first driving under the influence conviction depending upon the blood alcohol content when you were arrested. If you have had even one other DUI offense on your record in the 10 years before your current arrest, you may be ordered to install an IID in order to retain your right to drive. The previous offense rule remains in place even for situations involving adjudication of delinquency or Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition.

Using the IID is only one thing you need to do. You will also have to receive a special driver’s license that clearly states you are only allowed to drive a vehicle equipped with an ignition interlock device.
